Christmas is approaching, should we bother? It’s a real question!
For with all its events and fuss and bother and with all the mixed emotions that come along with it, it’s so easy to just feel exhausted, check-out in advance and quietly wait for the New Year. For others amongst us, there’s so much going on that we can just as easily celebrate our way through it and forget to make use of any of the opportunities God gives us this time of year.
As we plan and prepare personally, let’s not forget what we’re celebrating and what it means for our world …
Luke 2:10-14 … The angel said [to the shepherds],
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Jesus born for us! Our Saviour, our Messiah, our Lord! Jesus, God’s offer of peace to all people, for Jesus came to seek and save the lost by reconciling us to God, through his death on the cross.
Do let’s not withdraw or get distracted from celebrating and sharing this good news. Let’s prayerfully, prepare well for events like Carols & Markets, Gingerbread, Nursing Home visits, Christmas Services; and also, for all that will happen in our streets and homes with family and friends.
And most important of all, let’s be messengers who interrupt slumbering, fearful, distracted people and invite them to come among us and hear the good news about Jesus!
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
